 Major Works And Events

  • He has been crowned twice.He was declared King by then Rana Prime Minister in 7th November 1950 till 7 January 1951, at the age of four after King Tribhuvan and then Crown Prince Mahendra secretly left Kathmandu for India to return in 1951.
  • Studied at St. Josheph College, Darjeeling, India and Graduated from Tribhuwan University in 2026 B.S.

  • succeeded to the throne upon the death of his nephew Prince Dipendra
  • Married Queen Komal on B.S 2027(1970 AD).

  • In February 2005 King Gyanendra finally took complete control of the government
  • One Son(Paras Shah) and One Daughter(Prerana Rajya Laxmi Shah).

  • King Gyanendra is well known in Nepal for his conservation works.
  • after dismissing the elected parliament and a series of prime ministers. This move accelerated the Maoist movement, who had been fighting to replace the monarchy with the Communist Republic since 1996.

  • He is a leading figure in the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation and has worked closely with the World Wildlife Fund.
  • His business interests - which will become much more important to him now he is no longer king - have included a hotel in Kathmandu, a tea estate in the east of Nepal and a cigarette factory
